There are so many different approaches that one can use to teach depending on the content to be taught, the time required to teach that particular content, ability of learners, number of learners in the class as well as the personal preferences of the teacher (Andrusyzyn 1990). An analytical approach is the use of analysis to break a certain problem down into the components that will help to solve it quickly (OECD, 2016). The word “analytic” means “breaking down” and resolving a problem based on its constituent elements and is derived from the word “analysis”. When using this approach to solve riders, we first break up the rider into simpler parts, check how these parts can help in forming relevant conjectures and then see how these parts can be recombined to find the solution (Andrusyszn, R. (1990)).
